Take a look at this ’68 AMX Pro Street we discovered on Racing Junk. Its come out of storage after 9 years and looks like it was built in the late 80’s judging by the paint scheme and integration of parts used. Although probably a very top notch build at the time, cars of this type weren’t very practical, as this one runs on methanol and hasĀ mechanical fuel injection.
Looking more like a Pro Stock drag car, the engine bay is packed with a built 401 AMC engine, a Hampton 6:71 Blower, and Enderle fuel injection. Power is transferred through a built 727 Torqueflite transmission to a Dana 60 rear end. The paint is beautiful, and the polished Centerline wheels really make it stand out.
Many Pro Street builds from the 80’s and early 90’s really used a lot of race only pieces making for a difficult car to drive on the street, compared to many of the pro street cars we see cruising around today. Cars like this AMX followed a specific trend of the times and in its day was considered a very Hi-Tech build.
This AMX is a very wild ride, and with a few upgrades like electronic fuel injection, converting back to gasoline again, and maybe even a Vintage Air setup would transform it into a very street friendly hot rod.
