William Shatner’s LSA-powered Rivet One Trike Will Be Produced

Generally speaking, William Shatner is very accomplished and has had a great career thus far. Now, why would he want to build a custom vehicle and produce a limited number of them? The answer is simple: because he’s the Shat.

Shatner’s vision is called the Rivet One, and the story is that an employee from American Wrench, a motorcycle fabrication firm, met him in an autograph line and suggested that they build a bike for him. Months later, Shatner started a company to produce the bikes, and a design materialized, along with a video showing the drawings and features to be incorporated into the bike. The front wheel is steered by a single-sided swing arm that is connected to handle bar controls that look like throttle levers in the cockpit of a boat.

Behind the front wheel sits a V8, but not just any V8; a supercharged LSA engine that normally finds its home in a CTS-V. As you can see in the rendering, there is a single seat, but that will be scrapped for two seats, and some kind of canopy will be used to cover the driver and passenger. All of the aluminum, riveted bodywork is hand-formed and is inspired by airplanes, and the red spikes sticking out of the back are, in fact, the taillights. We’re also curious if there’s going to be any storage capacity for some smaller items, like clothes and snacks.

Why do we ponder that aspect, you ask? Well, Once the Rivet One is complete, 84 year-old Captain Kirk Shatner is going to ride the bike on a trek from Chicago to Los Angeles over the Summer, just because he can, and we’re not even mad. Shatner’s company, Rivet, has also stated that they will build the bikes for private buyers, and that they’re working on a less-expensive model for those without money oozing out of their pockets.
