Project Swinger Update: Classic Industries’ Brings Home The Chrome

With all the stuff going on at powerTV, Project Swinger has taken a bit of a backseat to other things. That doesn’t mean that we’ve forgotten about our favorite ‘71 Nova, however, as Swinger has been trailered off to Z-Best Auto Body & Paint for the full treatment. With big plans for Swinger once the new Sherwin-Williams Planet Color Granite Gray paint cures, we turned to Classic Industries to make our Nova shine above the rest, and boy did they come through for us.

Looks like Christmas came a little early at powerTV! Classic Industries really stepped up in a big way to sponsor good ol' Project Swinger.

With the latest discussion on Swinger being the paint scheme, we needed to source all the exterior brightwork to really get our Nova‘s classic look rolling. Of course, we’ve also modified Swinger’s look, shaving off the drip rails and eliminating the rocker panel trim pieces, so our Nova won’t be mistaken for just another restoration.

Not only were we looking for pieces to compliment the pro-touring style of the car, but also pieces that showed close attention to fine details. With the help of the experts at Classic Industries, we found just the pieces we were looking for.

After much anticipation, the pallet from Classic arrived and we excitedly took inventory of all of our goodies. You could say it was like Christmas morning at the shop when our shipment arrived.

Not only did we get set up with bigger flashy pieces, like chrome side mirrors (CM3003-4), Nova badges and chrome-trimmed rear tail lamps (5964171-2), we also got down to the nitty-gritty with the small details, like new vent window frames (N1335-6)) and side reflector marker surrounds (K4161).

To top it all off, we even picked up a pair of Classic’s new headlamp bezels (C1671) – intricate, detailed pieces that are near-perfect recreations of the originals – with just enough shine and plenty of intricate details to make any classic car enthusiast drool.

The devil is in the details with these pieces. Die cast and plated, these brightwork trim parts are really going to 'pop' when assembled.

We got the lion's share of replacement brightwork parts for our Swinger Nova. Once it returns from paint, expect to see a whole new '71 Chevy Nova!

The components we chose weren’t limited to exterior details, however. We wanted to carry the chrome throughout the interior as well, and picked up new door handles, door sill plates, visor supports and even a chrome review mirror for some finishing touches (but more on that in a later installment!). With an all black interior planned for Swinger, the chrome interior components are sure to stand out.

Even though we wanted a bit of flash to add to Swinger, we wanted to use the chrome components tastefully. With the few pieces we chose, we feel there will be enough brightwork to keep with the classic look without making the car too flashy that it could be confused for a blinged-out ride.

We’ve got a bit of work to do before we can outfit Swinger with her new jewelry. As we inch closer to getting Swinger back from the paint booth, we’ll make sure we keep you informed. Stay tuned for more project updates on Swinger as we move forward and get closer to our finished ultimate pro-touring Nova.

Classic car enthusiasts have been going to Classic Industries for over a quarter century to bring their vintage GMs back to their factory floor luster.
