Targa Newfoundland is a rally that takes place over seven days and covers 1,400 miles. It’s safe to say that Targa Newfoundland is one of the most technical rallies that is still around today.

The event allows an eclectic group of vehicle owners to compete, ranging from historic, classic, and modern sports cars, amongst other vehicles. 2014, however, was the first year that a truck competed in the rally, and it did pretty well.

Although the video is pretty short, it does a great job of showing how the 1971 GMC truck handles the tight roads of Newfoundland, Canada. Mark Bovey built the truck at his parent’s house when he was younger, but took on the targa upgrade at his own place within the last few years. The truck is powered by an LSX-based 427 ci engine with AFR heads, and EFI. The whole setup, as it is, is good for a stout 600 hp at the rear tires. We love the idea of a truck that goes like hell, turns left and right, and stops great.

As you can see in the video, bovey is calm and composed, while his co-driver is more excited than ever for the Brigus stage of the rally. It’s actually quite amusing. The truck looked and sounded great during the stage, but there was a little slip up while hitting a chicane on a tight road. Other than that, the truck looks more than capable of hanging with the other groups of vehicles. Targa Newfoundland is an annual event, and you can enter it as well. As the rally takes place over seven days, it’s not a cheap event, but definitely worth the memories.
